Buta Biberaj held a press conference Tuesday calling out Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares directly for making cases like this political fodder.

Loudoun County’s prosecutor moved to drop the remaining charge with prejudice — meaning it can’t be filed again — and said the case was unwarranted and could have led to the type of tragedy that sparked this summer’s nationwide protests against police killings of Black men and women. A Loudoun County Circuit Court judge approved the motion without comment at a brief hearing.

After nearly five days of testimony and a day of deliberations, a Loudoun Circuit Court jury last week handed down guilty verdicts against a Sterling man who shot at two deputies—severely injuring one—last year in the Dulles Crossing Plaza Walmart store.
